Watch: Neeraj Chopra receives silver medal at Paris Olympics after season-best effort of 89.45m

Neeraj wasn't at his best yesterday but still managed his season-best throw when it mattered the most.

Neeraj ‘consistent’ Chopra has become the first Indian athlete to win a silver and gold medal in individual sport at the Olympics. The javelin star has competed in 16 events since the last Olympics (Tokyo) and finished first in nine and second in the remaining seven. Yesterday, he finished second despite throwing a season-best 89.45m but Neeraj was outdone by an Olympic record throw by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem of 92.97m.

Neeraj Chopra gets silver

Neeraj was basically penciled in to defend his gold, but no one, including Arshad, would have thought that he’d easily go past the previous Olympic record of 90.57m set by Andreas Thorkildsen at the 2008 Beijing Games.
