Star India shooter Manu Bhaker secured her Paris 2024 Olympics quota on Saturday after she finished fifth in the women’s 25m pistol final at the Asian Shooting Championship in South Korea’s Changwon. This is India’s 11th quota in shooting for the Paris 2024 Games and the fifth by a woman shooter.
Meanwhile, Manu failed to win a medal in her pet event, despite topping the qualification with 591 points. IN the final she ended with 24 points. China’s Liu Rui won the gold medal with a score of 37, while Iran’s Haniyeh Rostamiyan was second with 36 points. Zhao Nan of China was third in the event, with 32 points.
At the Asian Shooting Championships 2023 a total of 24 Olympic quotas are on offer. The reason why Manu Bhaker won the quota was because only two shooters from a nation, in an event, can seal the ticket to the Olympics. IN this case, China had already bagged two.
Apart from Manu, Mehuli Ghosh, Sift Kaur Samra, Rajeshwari Kumari, and Tilottama Sen – have won the Paris 2024 Olympics quotas in the women’s categories. Tilottama Sen, after winning silver in the women’s 10m air rifle event had sealed the deal. Arjun Babuta and Sarabjot Singh too won the quotas in this event.
