WATCH: Chinese players are beatable, but just too many of them, explains PV Sindhu

PV Sindhu explains what makes the Chinese Badminton players different from the rest.

The Chinese have dominated the world of Badminton for a very long time. Over the years, the nation has produced some of the great players to have graced the game like Lin Dan and Li Xuerui.

A decade ago, they were considered to be ‘unbeatable’. While they don’t look as threatening currently, they have a young group of players rising up the rankings at the moment. India’s PV Sindhu in a video explains what makes the Chinese players different from the rest.

PV Sindhu recently was the guest in ‘The Ranveer Show’, hosted by popular YouTuber Ranveer Alhabadia. During the interaction, she was asked about the Chinese players. “What in your eyes makes the Chinese players so feared and good?,” was the question.

Sindhu immediately replied, “Chinese are beatable.” She then added, “Initially it was (difficult). But when I started playing in 2012, I started beating the Chinese, so I would say Chinese are beatable. It’s not like they are unbeatable. Back then, yeah, they were unbeatable, They were everywhere.”

Sindhu also explained about the talent pool available in the country. “Even now they are coming back and performing well. They have n number of players. If one of them is out, they have 10 others. There are a bunch of players there. Right now in the top 15, there are 5-6 Chinese players,” she added.

On what makes them different from the others, she stated, “We also work as hard as them. But they have the right coaches and right setup. Here too there are number of academies and parents are sending their kids to the academies. But you need to have the right guidance.”

“In China, if they are into Badminton, they are completely into it. But here, parents think a lot on what if their child does not become a player,” she concluded.

PV Sindhu, ranked World No.12 is currently recovering from a knee injury. She withdrew from the French Open last month. The double Olympic medallist recently partnered with the legendary Prakash Padukone as she aims to get back into the form ahead of the Olympics in 2024.
