Vinesh Phogat’s entire village in celebration mode after Paris Olympics hero returns home

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was given a raucous reception on her return to her village in Haryana after the Paris Olympics

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat was given a raucous reception on her return from the Paris Olympics. Phogat suffered a heartbreak at the Games after being disqualified from her gold medal bout for being 100 gm overweight on the day of the weigh-in. An appeal was filed with the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) but it went in vain as the court upheld the decision made earlier, depriving Vinesh off a well-deserved medal.

As per First Post, Vinesh was greeted by 1000 people of the Balali village, along with Bajrang Punia and brother Harvinder and kin. Vinesh Phogat reportedly attended 20 felicitation ceremonies which went on way past midnight. From being garlanded to taking selfies with fans, the wrestler was showered love on her return from what was a heartbreaking yet victorious campaign.

I still don’t know whether I deserve all the accolades or not. But I feel myself to be the luckiest to be born in this village. I want to clear this debt of my village and I assure that I would always fight for the honour of the women and of this village,” Vinesh Phogat said.

Will Vinesh Phogat take back retirement?

The wrestler announced her retirement following her exit from the Paris Olympics. On being asked about her decision, Vinesh hinted that she might be taking back her retirement in the future, adding that she will continue to fight.

Maybe, I could return to wrestling. I don’t know if I would pursue wrestling or not but the kind of courage I got today, I want to use that in the right direction. Our fight has not ended and the fight will continue and I pray to god that the truth will prevail,” Vinesh added.
