Vinesh Phogat poised for semifinal clash against Cuban star Guzman at Paris Olympics

Vinesh Phogat has reached into the semifnials of women's 50kg freestyle wrestling at the Paris Olympics.

Yes, Vinesh Phogat has finally reached the semifinals, and she is just one win away from her first Olympic medal at the Paris Olympics. Vinesh has already made significant progress and records at the Paris Olympics. In her Round of 16 match, she defeated the world number champion and Tokyo Olympics gold medallist, Japan’s Yui Susaki. Later, by overcoming the eighth-seeded Oksana Livach of Ukraine in the quarterfinals, she secured her spot in the semifinals.

Vinesh is on a roll and preparing for her semifinal match. However, it will be a tough contest as she faces 12th-ranked Cuba’s Yusneylys Guzmán.

Guzman’s track record

The 27-year-old Cuban wrestler defeated Turkey’s Demirhan Yuvaz by 7-6 and later triumphed over Lithuania’s Dilyte Gabija in the quarterfinals.

Guzmán also competed in the Tokyo Olympics, participating in the women’s 50 kg event. She lost her first match to the eventual silver medallist Sun Yanan of China and was eliminated by Oksana Livach of Ukraine in the repechage. In this Olympics, Phogat defeated Livach in the quarterfinals.

Guzman’s achievements

The 12th-seeded Cuban grappler is well-decorated in the American circuit. She recently won gold at the Pan American Games and also secured a gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games.

Season head-to-head

Regarding their season performances, Vinesh Phogat has competed in five matches, losing only one. In contrast, Guzmán has played four matches, winning three and losing one.

Vinesh participated in two tournaments, winning four medals, while Guzmán competed in two tournaments and won three medals. Vinesh scored 32 points and conceded just 5, whereas Guzmán scored 22 points and conceded 6.

The upcoming match is expected to engage as these two dedicated wrestlers vie for a place on the podium.
