Vinesh Phogat hospitalised due to dehydration, team tried to draw blood out to reduce weight: Report

Paris Olympics: Vinesh Phogat had moved from the 53 kg category to the 50 kg one, just to be able to participate at the Olympics.

Right after the news of Vinesh Phogat getting disqualified from Paris Olympics, the reports of her being hospitalised, also starting surfacing. As per various sources, the 29-year-old wrestler is in hospital now, due to dehydration. Right after her semis bout on Tuesday, a video on internet showed her skipping rope, while the other showed her working out in the wee hours of the morning, after skipping sleep.

The report further claims that the Indian is in the polyclinic of the Olympic Village, where she is stable and resting too. Meanwhile, the Indian contingent is mulling lodging an official complaint, but that too would have little or no effect. Sources in the know also revealed that her team tried everything — from cutting hair to drawing blood out, but the results could not be achieved.

IOA had earlier said in a statement, “It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests respect for Vinesh’s privacy and would like to focus on the ongoing competitions.”

Vinesh Phogat Was Aware of Her Weight Issues

It is not like these weight issues surfaced overnight. But it seems Vinesh also was aware of them. “I will have to manage my weight a lot better. I have brought myself down to 50kg after so long, so I will try and maintain this as much as I can. It’s easy for me not to put on weight because my muscle mass is very high,” Vinesh told PTI in April after securing the 50kg quota for India.
