Vinesh Phogat disqualified for being 100 gm overweight, Paris Olympics gold medal dreams shattered

Paris Olympics: This is the worst possible outcome of what was a stupendous effort put forth by wrestler Vinesh Phogat.

In a shocking news emerging now, India’s latest Olympic sensation Vinesh Phogat might be disqualified from her Paris Olympics final bot, after being 100 gm overweight, as per the Indian Olympic Association.

An official statement of the Indian Olympic Association read,”It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh’s privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand.”

Vinesh had made it to the final of the women’s 50 kg bout after much difficulty. She beat the Tokyo 2020 gold medalist in the first bout 3-2, that only paved the way for her to go further in the competition. As per the UWW rules, a player failing to get their weight under check, won’t win a medal. So that could well mean, that despite being assured of a silver, Vinesh Phogat will not take a medal back home from Paris Olympics.

What that also means is, after failing in the weigh in, none of her wins stand now, and she will finish the event last despite playing so well throughout yesterday.
