  •  Video: Artur Beterbiev defeated Anthony Yarde by TKO (R8 at 2:08)

Few, if any, light heavyweight fighters could hold their own against unified champion Artur Beterbiev for an extended time. Despite his valiant efforts, Anthony Yarde could not get past the eighth round. With outstanding performance, Yarde responded forcefully to many of the fight’s detractors. At 2:01 of the eighth round, he had cut Beterbiev’s left eye, hit a string of left solid hands, and was ahead on two of the three scorecards.

In the eighth, Beterbiev defeated Yarde in a series that started with a devastating right. Before his corner properly requested the referee to stop it, Yarde stood on wobbly legs and took another two or three punches.

The world champion amateur player, who joined Frank Warren after winning the world titles, made a few good straight left hands. • Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna defeated Karol Itauma by KO (R5 at 1:04)

Karol Itauma, who won the gold medal at the 2018 Youth Olympics, has recently received far less attention than his brother Moses. On the Beterbiev-Yarde undercard, the Argentinean Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna knocked him out in the fifth round.

Itauma gave Maderna a good going over throughout the first three rounds, delivering a crisp left behind a southpaw jab. Itauma was forced to hold on after Maderna struck back in the fourth with a strong right that rocked him.

The threat appeared to have subsided, but early in the fifth round, Maderna delivered another right, making it evident that Itauma’s situation was not good. After landing another right, a powerful shot knocked him to the ground.

Itauma moved around for a little while before returning to his knees, where he remained when official John Latham finished counting at 1:04.
