Indian shuttler Malvika Bansod advanced quickly to the Women’s Singles semifinals of the Texas US Open Super 300 badminton competition. In the quarterfinal, Bansod defeated Kirsty Gilmour, a Scottish player, 10-21, 21-15, 21-10. Tonight, the Indian shuttler will take on Japan’s Natsuki Nidaira.
Bansod comes back from a game down
Following a sluggish start and a crushing defeat in the first game, World No. 49 Malvika pulled off an incredible comeback to win the final two games and guarantee her spot in the semifinal.
Malvika hasn’t advanced to the semifinals since finishing second in the Syed Modi International in January 2022, where she was defeated by renowned shuttler PV Sindhu.

Bad day for other Indians
Apart from Malvika, no other Indian shuttler in any of the categories was able to progress past the quarterfinals. In the men’s singles quarterfinal match, Priyanju Rajawat battled valiantly against Lei Lan Xi of China, but ultimately lost. Priyanshu was eliminated from the tournament in 61 minutes despite winning the first game 21-15. He lost the next two games, 11-21 and 18-21.
Similarly Indian pair of Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand fought valiantly against Rui Hirokami and Yuna Kato but ended their campaign with a 17-21, 21-17, 19-21 loss in the women’s doubles match.
