Swiatek beat Jabeur Highlights: With the victory, she has also improved her head-to-head record against the Tunisian as she takes a 3-2 lead. Jabeur however was second-time unlucky as she has lost her second successive final in Grand Slam this year.

“I needed to stay composed and focus on the goals,” Swiatek said during the trophy ceremony. “It’s New York — it’s so loud, it’s so crazy. “It’s really mind-blowing for me. I’m really proud I could handle it mentally.”

This is Swiatek’s seventh title of the year. She’s the first woman to do that since Serena Williams in 2014 and the first No.1 seed to take the title since Williams eight years ago.

Swiatek started the game on a positive note as she got a break over Jabeur in the Tunisian’s very first service games and won the first three games of the set to takje 3-0 lead. However Jabeur tried to claw her way back into the contest as she broke Swiatek in the fifth game of the set.

It was a wake-up call to Swiatek and she ensured there were no further slip ups from her side as she broke back Jabeur immediately in the next game and went on to win three successive games to clinch the first set 6-2.

In the second set too Swiatek started on a similar fashion as she broke Jabeur’s first service game. Swiatek was marching on and was looking to win her fourth straight game in the set but Jabeur made a good comeback as she saved a break point to win her first service game to trail 1-3. She then went on to break Swiatek twice to slowly claw her way back in the contest. She finally managed to take the first set into the tie-breaker.

“I really tried, but Iga didn’t make it easy for me,” Jabeur said in her on-court interview, tears in her eyes. “I don’t like her very much now, but it’s OK.”
