Carlos Alcaraz started the contest by winning the first four games in the first set. After surrendering the first set, Evans broke Alcaraz with an unreturnable backhand down in the second game of the second set. However, Evans upped his level in the third set. After both the players won three games each, Evans broke the Spaniard in the seventh game. It was enough for him as he took the match into the fourth set.

The 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz showcased his superior speed and agility in the fourth set. He broke the Briton with a sublime forehand winner in the sixth game. He went on to close out the game with a forehand winner.

“He’s a tricky opponent. He always wants to go to the net. Great slices, good touch,” said Alcaraz of Evans in his on-court interview. “I think this is my game as well, so we played a pretty good match. I think the people loved that. We made great points, great shots, a lot of different situations probably than in other matches. I’m really happy to get through and play the fourth round again in the US Open.
