US Open 2022 LIVE – Novak Djokovic to miss US Open: It is official. Former US Open champion Novak Djokovic will not be able to compete in the US Open. The Serbian ace tweeted about him not able to travel to New York. He said, ‘I will not be able to travel to NY this time for US Open’. Earlier, the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had dealt the last blow to 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. The CDC has updated its vaccine mandate for non-US citizens, making it compulsory to take Covid-19 vaccination to enter the US.

Djokovic, who was hoping to get in with approval from state will now miss his 2nd Grand Slam of the year, owing to a similar mandate at the Australian Open. His participation in next year’s Australian Open also is in doubt.

What does the latest guidelines say?

The guidelines, published on Thursday, make it clear that non-citizens entering the United States of America (USA) must be vaccinated before boarding any flight to the country.

“Non-US citizen, non-US immigrants: You must show proof of being fully vaccinated with the primary series of an accepted Covid-19 vaccine before you board your flight to the United States. Only limited exceptions apply,” read the statement on CDC website.

The 35-year-old has been the topic of discussion ever since the Wimbledon Championships came to an end. His unwavering stance against vaccinations and stringent American rules calling for compulsory vaccinations meant that this issue was always going to be stretched to the very end.

What is Novak Djokovic’s Official Website saying? It is important to note that the athlete’s website is most of the times updated. However, at present, it says that there are no scheduled events.

This has added to the speculation that the athlete is not going to feature in the US Open.

While several fans, pundits, politicians and players sided either with Novak Djokovic or the US government’s rules, Andy Roddick on Tuesday gave a measured take on the situation. He stated that no player or tournament will dictate government policy, referring to the Serbian’s ongoing battle to take part in the 2022 US Open.
