US Open 2022 LIVE: Novak Djokovic’s participation in US Open still lingers in doubt as organisers likely to issue Covid-19 protocols – Check OutDjokovic, who is ranked World No.7 at the moment is hoping that the US government will relax the Covid protocols so that he will be able to enter the country and participate at the Grand Slam event despite being unvaccinated. However ahead of the tournament, the organisers have indicated that there will be numerous Covid protocols put up in place.
While the Covid-19 measures are yet to be announced, the official website of the tournament has issued guidelines for the spectators. It reads, “At this time, ticket holders will not be required to show proof of COVID vaccination for admission into the US Open.”
“However, please not that if you are traveling from abroad to attend the US Open, you must be fully vaccinated with the primary series of an accepted COVID vaccine to travel to the United States (this applies to non-U.S. citizens and/or non-U.S. immigrants),” the statement added.
While only the vaccinated spectators from abroad will be allowed to watch the tournament the same rule might apply to the players who will be entering US for the tournament. If this is put in place, Novak Djokovic will not be able to participate in the year end Grand Slam.
Earlier this year, he was the defending champion at the Australian Open but he was not allowed to enter the Grand Slam event without vaccination and was deported from the country after losing a legal battle. He participated at the French Open later and faced quarterfinal defeat after losing to Rafael Nadal. He however successfully defended his title at Wimbledon after winning the final against Nick Kyrgios. With less than a week for the US Open to kickstart, the 21-time Grand Slam winner waits with bated breath for an official confirmation regarding the vaccination mandate at the US Open. The verdict would be out soon.
