Unpopular Opinion: ‘Dubki King’ Pardeep Narwal might just go unsold in PKL Auction

Unpopular Opinion: ‘Dubki King’ Pardeep Narwal might just go unsold in PKL Auction

PKL Auction: Pardeep Narwal has over 1600 points in PKL history and is the most successful player ever.

Over the years, in Pro Kabaddi League, Dubki King Pardeep Narwal has garnered most love from fans. Not only is he the highest point-scorer in PKL history, but was also instrumental in taking Patna Pirates to three title wins. At one point in PKL, his dominance was such, that he was just untamable. But over the years, his form has dwindled significantly. He isn’t the same Pardeep of yesteryears, who would score points for fun.

His last few seasons weren’t the best, where he plied his trade for UP Yoddhas. In Pro Kabaddi 2023, in 17 matches, he could only score 122 points. 2022 edition was a touch better with 220 points, in 2021 he got 188 points. But all this is quite low, if he compare it with his numbers from his Patna Pirates days.

In his last season with Patna, he had scored 304 points. In 2017, he got 369, which remains his best till date. But this significant loss in form only means, he wasn’t retained by the UP Yoddhas team. And one must admit, it isn’t looking a best-case scenario for Pardeep Narwal at the PKL Auction. In fact, he could just go unsold in Mumbai.

Pardeep Narwal’s Poor 2023 PKL Edition

Had any raider gotten 122 points in 17 matches, that would have been considered decent, but unfortunately, not by Pardeep Narwal. A man who is famous for getting Super 10s every match, it is just poor to say the least. And with UP not retaining him — the damage has already been done. Perhaps, this will send a signal to the other teams, that he isn’t at the heights of his prowess now.

Could be a Costly Addition in PKL Auction

Make no mistake, he is still an excellent player, but does he meet the requirement of a team, is the big question. Also, if any team has the budget to buy his, also needs to be seen. For a player like him, to enter the PKL Auction, a team must be ready to shell out at least INR 1.5 cr to 2 cr. The call is with the respective managements, either to get Pardeep, or get two excellent raiders for the same price.
