Seeded No.2 in his category, the 22-year-old has received a favorable draw making him one of the favorites to at least make it to the semi-finals in Tokyo. A junior world champion, Punia comes into the Summer Games without much match preparation following his left-hand injury. He has not competed since the 2020 World Cup and is yet to be proven at the international level, which presents him with an opportunity, while could also turn out to be a weakness on the day.
