India’s chef-de-mission BP Baishya and other members are considering sending a reduced number of athletes and just allowing the flagbearers Mary Kom and Manpreet Singh.

India will be sending a 228-strong contingent, including 127 athletes, IOA President Narinder Batra said on Tuesday.

  • Out of the 127 athletes, 67 are male and 52 female participants, Batra said during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with Olympic-bound athletes.

“The total Indian contingent for Tokyo Olympics will be 227. We are fighting for 85 medal events,” Batra said in the virtual interaction.

The president of IOA Narinder Batra arrived in Tokyo on the 20th of July and will miss the opening ceremony due to a mandatory 3-days quarantine period.
