Tokyo Olympics: PM Narendra Modi meets India Olympic contingent, interacts with medal winners Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu – India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the Indian contingent for breakfast at his residence on Monday. The Indian athletes had returned home from the Tokyo Olympics with a best-ever performance, with many record-breaking achievements also met.
Tokyo Olympics: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hosted the Olympic-returned Indian athletes for breakfast at his residence, a day after lauding their memorable performance at the Tokyo Games from the ramparts of the Red Fort. He hailed the Olympians’ efforts in Tokyo in his address to the nation on the occasion of India’s 75th Independence.
Tokyo Olympics: In attendance was India’s golden boy Neeraj Chopra, who became the first to win a gold medal in track and field events for the country. The Prime Minister was also seen interacting with badminton queen PV Sindhu, who became the first Indian female athlete to win two individual medals at the Olympics. She had brought along her 2016 Silver medal, along with the 2020 bronze to the meet.

Tokyo Olympics: India men’s hockey team also created history after they clinched a spot at the podium for the first time in 41 years. Maninder Singh and Co who won the bronze were also in attendance and spent some time chatting with PM Narendra Modi, who was seen keenly examining a hockey stick.
Tokyo Olympics: Also in attendance was the Indian wrestling contingent, which brought home medals for the fourth successive Olympics. Ravi Kumar Dhaiya and Bajrang Punia returned home with a silver and bronze medal respectively in their maiden Olympic campaigns. Coach Jagmander Singh was also present along with Anshu Malik and Seema Bisla, while Vinesh Phogat, who was handed a suspension by WFI was also present.
Bajrang Punia took to Twitter to express his delight in meeting the Prime Minister and added that he feels very fortunate for having had the opportunity to do so. Punia added that PM Modi along with the government have supported sports and athletes over the years and is confident the same will continue for the years to come.

Tokyo Olympics: The other medallists from the Indian Olympic contingent included weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who opened India’s account at the Games on the first day of competitions with a silver medal and bronze-winning boxer Lovlina Borgohain. Chanu became the second Indian weightlifter to win a medal after Karnam Malleswari, while Borgohain joined Vijender Singh and Mary Kom as pugilists who had finished on the podium for India. The women’s hockey team that exceeded all expectations by reaching its maiden Olympic semifinal was also present alongside the boxing, shooting and athletics contingents.
