The Serbian went on to lose the match in three sets 4-6, 7-6 (8/6), 3-6 to end his nightmare at the business end of the Tokyo Games. He threw his racquet in the stands during the match in a frustrating rally with Carreno Busta.

It did not stop with just throwing his racquet as he continued with the animated scenes on Ariake Tennis Centre Court.

The bronze medal match between Djokovic and Carreno lasted for two hours and 47 minutes. The number six seed Carreno outclassed Djokovic in the first set, and the Serbian did not had any answers to what was being thrown at him. After losing the first set, the world number one was under pressure to win the next two sets.
The Serbian staged a comeback in the second set, however it was not easy as the match went back and forth in the second set. However, in the end, Djokovic ended up winning it 7-6, sending the match into the third and deciding set.
However, Djokovic was not able to carry forward his momentum and he went down easily in the third and deciding set.

On Friday, the World No.1 lost two semifinals on the same day at Tokyo Games. As a result, his dream of winning the Golden Slam after a dominating run at Grand Slams in 2021 is finished. The World No,1 will now have to wait for 3 more years. He lost the day opening match in men’s singles to Alexander Zverev before losing the second semifinals in mixed doubles semifinals with Nina Stojanovic to Russia’s Elena Vesnina and Aslan Karatsev. The Serbian pair fell to a 7-6 (7/4), 7-5 loss to Russians. In the other match, Germany’s Alexander Zverev defeated Djokovic 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the men’s singles event.
“I feel so terrible right now, can’t be positive right now. I don’t know I feel terrible… in every sense, but tomorrow hopefully, a fresh start. I can recover and at least win one medal for my country,” he said post-match on Friday.
