Satish belongs to the Indian army and hails from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh. He was introduced to boxing owing to his good physique and impressive gameplay in Kabaddi. He has won a silver medal at Commonwealth Games and bronze at Asian Games.
The two-time Asian Championships bronze-winner will take on Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov- reigning World Champion. The latter thrashed Mohammad Abdullayev 5-0 in a one-sided match in his last-16 bout.
After Amit Panghal’s shocking loss, Satish is the only hope for India at Tokyo Olympics. The likes of Manish Kaushik (63 kg), Vikas Krishnan (69 kg), and Ashish Chaudhary (75 kg) have already bowed out of the Tokyo Olympics.
Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) is the only Indian boxer to secure a medal at Tokyo Games after cruising into the semifinals. She beat World Champion Nien-Nien Chen in quarterfinals.
Top-seed Indian boxer Amit Panghal crashed out of the ongoing Tokyo Olympics after losing to Colombia’s Yuberjen Martinez in men’s Flyweight (48-52kg) here at Kokugikan Arena on Saturday.
