Thomas Uber Cup LIVE: Setback for BWF as England withdraws from the event, ’no replacement will be announced’

BWF further declared that as the prestigious event in Aarhus, Denmark, is only three days away, England will not be replaced by another team in Group D of the Thomas Cup.

Three other teams in the group – Japan, Malaysia and Canada – will now battle for the top two spots to qualify for the quarterfinals.

The Thomas & Uber Cup begins on Saturday 9 October.

 
Thomas Cup Groups – India in Thomas Cup:  Indonesia, who have won the Thomas Cup a record 13 times, are in Group A with Chinese Taipei, Algeria and Thailand. Defending champions China are in Group C with India, Netherlands and Tahiti, while last edition runners-up Japan are in Group D with Malaysia, Canada and England.

Uber Cup Groups – India in Uber Cup: Meanwhile, in the Uber Cup, defending champions Japan are in Group A with Indonesia, Germany and France. China, who have won the tournament 14 times but failed to make the final in 2018 for the first time since they started participating in the 1980s, are in Group D with Denmark, Malaysia and Canada.

Last edition runners-up Thailand will be challenged by India, Spain and Scotland in Group B, while Group C features Korea, Chinese Taipei, Tahiti and Egypt.
