The Thomas Cup 2024 will kick off on April 27 in China, with the Indian men’s team aiming to defend their title. The Thomas Cup is the premier team badminton championship for men, while the Uber Cup is its women’s counterpart. Both tournaments take place simultaneously every two years.
India aim to defend maiden title in Thomas Cup 2024
India’s men will begin their defence against Thailand in their opening match in Group C on April 27. They will then face England on April 29 and close the group stage against Indonesia, the most successful team in Thomas Cup history with 14 titles, on May 1. India’s victory in the 2022 Thomas Cup was a historic moment, and they’re keen to repeat that success.
The Indian men’s team is anchored by world No. 1 doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. In singles, they have HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, and Kidambi Srikanth, all world championships medallists.

Indian women aim for first title in Uber Cup 2024
India are yet to claim the Uber Cup, they qualified for the 2024 edition by winning gold at the Badminton Asia Team Championships earlier this year. The Indian women are placed in Group A and will face Canada on April 27, Singapore on April 28, and China, the record-holders with 15 Uber Cup titles, on April 30.
The women’s team, however, will be without some key players, including PV Sindhu, Ashwini Ponnappa, and Tanisha Crasto. Anmol Kharb, the standout at the Badminton Asia Team Championships, will carry high expectations for the women’s team.
