Novak Djokovic had done it all in his tennis career. 24 Grand Slams, record top 10 wins, most weeks spent at No. 1, the Serb had it all. But, despite having it all, he wasn’t satisfied. Although the Olympics aren’t considered the pinnacle of tennis, as a proud Serbian, Djokovic wanted the only thing left for him to achieve: an Olympic gold medal.
A couple of weeks ago, he was humbled by Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final. A straight set thrashing. He’d arrived in Paris knowing that he’d have to get past Alcaraz to tick that last box. Djokovic had to be at his best to achieve that. And what the display he put on the Philippe Chatrier court will be for a long, long time.
Tennis community bows in awe of Novak Djokovic
Alcaraz had no answers for him. In awe of his performance, the whole tennis world applauded his feat and called him the GOAT, a word that has been used for him since he overtook Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s Grand Slam tally.
