Every sport has its own inevitable GOAT debate. Basketball legend LeBron James recently stated: “I feel like I’m the best basketball player that ever played the game. That’s just my confidence, that’s just what I bring to the table.”
Ahead of the upcoming Dubai Open, Djokovic spoke to The National. asked what he thinks about the James’ statement and whether he shares the same mentality as that of James, the World No.1 stated, “Yes, I can relate to that because I believe that what worked for me and still works for me is that self-belief and confidence level.”

But just self-belief that, hey, I know that when I’m ready, when I’m there out on the court, on any surface, against anybody, I’m better, I’m the best.,” he added.
He also feels what he thinks cannot be attributed to being arrogant. “I don’t think there’s anything arrogant or pretentious about it. I don’t see anything wrong in that,” he elaborated.
Following his stunning Australian Open win, Djokovic is set to take the field at Dubai. He will begin his campaign in the tournament by facing qualifier Tomas Machac in the first round. He has landed in Dubai and has begun his practice sessions. The World No.1 has remained unbeaten so far in the tour in 2023. He has won 12 straight games in the year and aims to extend his win streak.
