Star India shuttler and former silver medalist at the World Championships, Kidmabi Srikanth slipped further to WR-23 in the latest BWF rankings released on Tuesday. After two first-round exits at the French Open and the Denmark Open, Srikanth’s downfall doesn’t come as a surprise. 2023 has been a poor year for the former world no. 1, who has not even made the semis of any event this year. He has 48,183 points in all.
Kidambi Srikanth’s Paris 2024 Olympic Dream in Jeopardy
After missing the cut for the Tokyo 2022 Olympics, Srikanth looks like, is going to miss the bus for the Paris 2024 Olympics as well, as only the top 16 players of the world get a direct entry for the Games. In that too, only two players from a nation can get the quotas — and in India’s case they will most likely go to HS Prannoy (WR-8), and Lakshya Sen (WR-17).
Meanwhile, there were no other significant movements in the men’s singles rankings this week.
Tasnim Mir & Unnati Hooda Gain Big, PV Sindhu Out of Top 10
As far as the women’s singles are concerned, PV Sindhu fell a spot to WR-11 last week. But the week belonged to teenagers Tasnim Mir & Unnati Hooda, after a strong finish at the Chhattisgarh Challenger last week. Unnati won the tournament, and Tasnim made it to the final. Courtesy of such a finish, Tasnim jumped 12 places to attain a career-best ranking of 60, while Unnati jumped 16 spots, to be WR-74.
