PV Sindhu looks to end title drought- two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will look to look for a turnaround after her unexpected semifinal loss at the India Open. On the opening day of Syed Modi International, she will face youngster Tanya Hemanth. The other Indian star in action will be HS Prannoy, who will face Ukrainian youngster Danylo Bosniuk.
The tournament offers an opportunity for her end title drought which kick starts Tuesday. The 26-year-old from Hyderabad looked well on course to win her first title since the 2019 World Championship triumph last week but left-hander Supanida Katethong of Thailand shattered her hopes with a three-game win at the India Open. Sindhu had last won a BWF title in 2018.

PV Sindhu, who had finished runner-up at Swiss Open and World Tour Finals, will hope to turn things around this week when she begins her campaign against compatriot Tanya Hemanth.
The senior-pro Sindhu hasn’t faced Tanya Hemanth in the national circuit. For the Karnataka youngster lost the Round-of-16 match to USA’s Lauren Lam in straight games. But she will draw inspiration from Supanida. It will be a big test for the youngster.
For Sindhu, it is expected to be smooth sailing. But she will have to fight fatigue as she has been competing constantly. If she manages to go through to the semifinals, she will be itching to settle scores against Supanida, whom she is likely to face again at the semifinals at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium.

In the men’s singles, HS Prannoy will be hot favourite. After a tough loss against eventual-winner Lakshya Sen in the India Open, he will be aiming to get some crucial points. On a comeback trail, former top-10 player HS Prannoy gave a good account of himself before being stopped by 20-year-old Sen was in the quarterfinals last week.
Fifth seed Prannoy will hope to go deep in the draw this week when he opens his campaign against Ukraine’s Danylo Bosniuk.
