Swiss Open Badminton LIVE – Srikanth lost to Christie LIVE: India’s PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy clinched a terrific victories to book a spot in the final of the Swiss Open on Saturday. Prannoy defeated Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting. Meanwhile, World No.7 PV Sindhu beat Thailand’s Katethong. Sindhu vs Busanan LIVE in SWISS Open Finals: Sindhu will take on 4th seed Busanan ONGBAMRUNGPHAN of Thailand in the Finals today at 3.30 PM. While Prannoy takes on Jonatan Christie of Indonesia in the Men’s Singles Finals later in the day.

Kidambi Srikanth [IND] vs Jonatan Christie [INS] 

  • 13-21 Christie win the game with a smash to enter a BWF tournament final for the first time in 2 and half years.
  • 12-20 Christie gets eight match points with a smash that was well placed just inside the sideline.
  • 11-19 Srikanth hits outside the sideline
  • 11-17 Christie hits a terrific smash to take six point lead.
  • 5-11 Srikanth hits over the backline to enter the break trailing behind by six-point deficit.
  • 5-10 Christie then capitalised on the mistake from his opponent to get five successive points.
  • 5-5 An err in judgement from Christie near the backline, helped Srikanth level the score.
  • 3-4 Christie unleashes a smash to lead 4-3.

Game 1

Christie began the game on the front foot by taking a narrow 4-3 lead. However, Srikanth soon fought his way back to enter the first set break with a 11-7 lead. But leading 18-15, Srikanth made three consecutive errors by hitting in the net as he allowed his opponent to level the score. The World No.12 Indian however fought his way back to get to the game point. He then won the set 21-18 with a terrific smash.

Like the first set, Christie once again led from the start in the second set. However unlike the second set, Srikanth struggled with his game as Christie entered the break with a 11-5 lead. He continued his dominance throughout the set as he won it 21-7 to stretch the game into the third set. In the third set both the players fought well with Srikanth having a slender 5-4 lead. However an err in judgement helped Christie level the score. From then on, Christie capitalised as he won six straight points to enter the break with a 11-5 lead. Srikanth completely lost the plot and from then on it was a one-way battle as Christie won the set 21-13 to enter the final.

PV Sindhu [IND] vs Supanida Katethong [THA] 

World No.7 Sindhu prevailed 21-18, 15-21, 21-19 over Thailand’s Supanida Katethong in a game that lasted 79 minutes. In the first set, the Indian started off well with a 5-3 lead but Katethong fought back to level the scores 6-6. Sindhu however used the court well and was stong with her smashes as she entered the first set break with a 11-7 lead. She then asserted her dominance and won the set 21-18.

In the second set the tables turned as Katethong completely took the game away from Sindhu. She entered the break with a massive 11-3 lead. Sindhu coudn’t do much as Katethong went on to win the set. Sindhu came back strongly in the decider, leading 4-0. The Thai however clawed her way back as she levelled the scores 7-7 with a terrific smash. From then on it was a see-saw battle but Sindhu managed to enter the break with a narrow 11-10 lead. Sindhu then raced to a 16-13 lead but Katethong once again managed to level the score 18-18. Sindhu however kept calm and hit a brilliant smash to clinch the championship point. She then sealed the game with another smash to set up the summit clash with Thailand’s fourth seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

  • 7-7 Katethong however gets three consecutive points to come from 4-7 behind to level the scores.
