Sumit Nagal has made the Indian Wells Masters qualifying list after his title run at the Chennai Challengers 2024. The top-ranked Indian men’s singles player has been in fine form this year. He made the second round at the Australian Open 2024 in January and gained a big paycheck and a significant rise in the rankings.
After his Australian Open run, he beat top seed Luca Nardi in Chennai and broke into the ATP Top 100 for the first time in his career. Sumit was ranked outside of 500 after the end of 2022; the Indian ace has moved up to 98 in the world in the space of 14 months.
Sumit Nagal will now be playing in the qualifiers for the first ATP Masters of the year, the Indian Wells, for the first time in his career. The 26-year-old has played the qualifiers of two Masters before (Monte Carlos and Shanghai) but hasn’t been past the first round.
However, now that he is enjoying his dream run, the world number 98 will try to make an ATP 1000 main draw for the first time. His ranking boost from the 100K title in Chennai will see him seeded 15th in the qualifying stage and potentially improve his chances of making the main draw.
