ATP Rankings: Rafael Nadal’s incredible streak at the Top 10 of the world rankings has officially come to an end. Nadal maintained his spot in the Top 10 for a record 18 years. However his latest injury after the Australian Open made him miss subsequent tournaments. He was unable to defend points at the recently concluded Indian Wells Masters. Nadal first made it to the Top 10 way back in 2005. The Spaniard was just 18-years old back then. A victory at the Barcelona Open that year propelled him into the Top 10 on April 25 2005. From then on he was at the top bracket for a record 934 weeks – officially 910 weeks – as 24 of those came when the rankings were suspended due to Covid-19 in 2020.
The 22-time Grand Slam winner started 2023 as the World No.2. He was the top seed at the Australian Open. But a hip flexor injury made him crash out from the second round of the tournament. He lost 1955 ranking points subsequently and dropped down to sixth spot in the World rankings after the Grand Slam event.

The 36-year old won the Mexico Open title last year, while he was the runner-up at the Indian Wells Masters. Nadal’s withdrawal from these tournaments this year made his drop 1100 points. He has gone down four places and with that he has moved out of the Top 10.
Nadal now aims to make a comeback ahead of the clay court season. He is eyeing to make his comeback at the Monte Carlo Masters that gets underway in April. He has already registered his mane in the entry list for the Masters 1000 event. He is also expected to feature in the Barcelona Open.
