Carlos Alcaraz successfully defended his Madrid Open title on Sunday. With that he maintained his points tally which is at 6,770 at the moment. However Novak Djokovic dropped 360 points after missing the Madrid Open due to an elbow niggle. With that he has 6,775 ranking points at the moment which is just five more than Alcaraz.

Djokovic is set to feature in the upcoming Italian Open. The Serbian is the defending champion and hence he will not be earning additional points even if he lifts the title at Rome. However Alcaraz missed the tournament last year. He is all set to begin his campaign this year in the tournament from the second round. Even if he loses the contest, he is set to gain a minimum of 10 points that would help him go past Djokovic in the rankings.

ATP Rankings (Top 5)

  • Novak Djokovic – 6.775 points
  • Carlos Alcaraz – 6,770 points
  • Daniil Medvedev – 5,330 points
  • Casper Ruud – 5,165 points
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas – 5,015 points

Rafael Nadal is currently at the 14th spot. However he is set to drop down to World No.15 after the Italian Open. The Spaniard will not be in action in Rome this year as he is still recovering from the hip flexor injury that he sustained during the Australian Open. The 36-year old is racing against time to be fit enough to feature in the Roland Garros.

Alexander Zverev meanwhile has dropped down six spots and has gone out of the Top 20. He is currently ranked World No.22 following his fourth round exit from the Madrid Open.
