With the win, Nikhat Zareen became only the second Indian women after Mary Kom to win multiple gold medals in the World Championships. Nikhat won the bout by a unanimous verdict with the scores from the five judges reading: 28-27, 28-27, 28-27, 29-26 and 28-27.
This is Nikhat’s first medal in the 50 kg category. In the previous edition of the World Championships, she became the world champion in the 52 kg category. Both Nikhat and Nguyen started off the contest by failing to land clear punches. However, Nikhat took control and with continuous strikes, won the first round with an unanimous decision.
In the second round too Nikhat continued to punch her way and won the round with a spilt verdict. In the final round, both the boxers yet again was in an intense battle. In the end, it was the Indian who was adjudged as the winner.

Lovlina used her height o good effect and won the first round dominating the two-time Commonwealth Games champion. However, the Australian came back strong and took the second round via a split decision.
Under pressure to deliver in the final round, both the boxers went all out. It was Lovlina who had the last laugh as she punched her way to glory to get crowned as the World Champion for the first time.
