Sudirman Cup 2023: Indian Badminton Team – The Sudirman Cup will get underway on 14th May 2023, Sunday. World best shuttlers will play as a team representing their countries in the Mixed Team Badminton event. The biennial event will be played in Suzhou, China. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Suzhou in 2021. However due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tournament was shifted to Vantaa, Finland. Two years later, Suzhou is all set to host the 18th edition of the tournament.
A total of 16 teams will be participating in the tournament. They are divided into four groups of four teams each. China and Japan are the top two seeded countries in this edition.

Groups
- Group A: China, Denmark, Singapore, Egypt
- Group B: Indonesia, Thailand, Germany, Canada
- Group C: Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, India, Australia
- Group D: Japan, South Korea, France, England
India in Sudirman Cup 2023
India has been drawn in a challenging group that has Malaysia, Chinese Taipei and Australia. India has not won a single medal in the tournament so far. The team led by PV Sindhu aims to make it to the podium this year. The team recently won the bronze medal earlier this year at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships and will look to put on a similar show.

Prannoy, who is currently ranked World No.9 will lead India in Men’s Doubles. Experienced Kidambi Srikanth is also part of the squad. Lakshya Sen will be the reserve player.
In the Women’s Singles, Sindhu is the only experienced player. Youngster Anupama Upadhyaya has been named in the squad alongside Aakarshi Kashyap.
In the Men’s Doubles, World No.5 pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will be in action. MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will play second fiddle. Women’s Doubles will be led by Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly. Meanwhile the experienced Ashwini Ponnappa is also part of the squad and she will pair up with Tanisha Crasto. Tanisha Crasto will also play in the Mixed Doubles alongside Sai Pratheek.
