Men’s Singles
Priyanshu Rajawat vs Kenta Nishimoto
Priyanshu Rajawat clinched one of his biggest victories of his career on Thursday by defeating Kenta Nishimoto in straight games in the second round at Orleans Masters on Thursday, 6th April 2023.
Rajawat, ranked 58th in the world started the contest on a dominating fashion with a 10-0 lead. Nishimoto managed to get only three points before the mid-game interval. The one-sided game continued after the break as Rajawat went on to seal a comfortable 21-8 win in the first game.
In the second game, Nishimoto took an early 6-2 lead in the contest. However Rajawat didn’t let the Japaneserun a way with the lead and managed to reduce the deficit 6-7. He soon levelled the contest and neck-to-neck battle ensued between both the players. Nishimoto entered the interval with a solitary 11-10 lead.
Soon after the break, Rajawat yet again made a comeback and this time he took six straight points to go up 16-11. From then on it became difficult for Nishimoto to make a comeback in the contest and Rajawat went on to win the second game 21-16 and made his way into the quarterfinal.
Mithun Manjunath vs Chi Yu Jen
Mithun Manjunath began his campaign at the Orleans Masters campaign with a 24-22, 25-23 win against Victor Svendensen. He is now set to face Chi Yu Jen. Manjunath’s best performance this year is reaching the second round at Swiss Open. He will aim to better that performance.
Chi Yu Jen was leading in the first game against Rasmus Gemke 21-12, 11-9 before the latter pulled out of the contest. The Taiwanese is now aiming to reach his first quarterfinal in the tour this year. Like Manunath, his best performance was also reaching the second round at the Swiss Open this year.
Women’s Singles
Tanya Hemnath vs Natsuki Nidaira
Tanya Hemnath is the only remaining Women’s Singles player in the tournament. She is set to face in-form Natsuki Nidaira in the second round. Playing in her first tournament in the BWF Tour this season, Hemnath defeated France’s Leonice Huet 21-17, 21-18 in the first round.
Natsuki Nidaira defeated Aakarshi Kashyap in three games in the first round. The Japanese made it to the quarterfinal at the Madrid Masters last week. She now aims to better that performance. The 24-year old enters the upcoming contest as the favourite.

MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila are the only seeded Indians remaining in the tournament. They are aiming for a spot in the quarterfinal and face Japan’s Kenya Mitsuhasi and Hiroki Okamura in the second round. The Indian pair started the tournament by defeating Czech Republic’s Mednrek-Kral pair 21-13, 22-20.
Japan’s Kenya Mitsuhashi and Hiroki Okamura clinched a 21-9, 21-10 win against Norway’s Rikheim-Flaatten pair in the first round. They began their season this year at the Swiss Open where they bowed out the first round. In the Spain Masters, they went one better to reach the quarterfinal. They are aiming for a similar show at the Orleans Masters.
Tanisha Crasto/Ashwini Ponnappa – Li Yi Jing/Luo Xu Min
Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa are aiming to reach their second quarterfinal this year. Earlier this year they made it to the last-eight at the Indonesia Masters. At the Orleans Masters, they were about the play the qualifiers. However series of withdrawals made them enter the main draw directly. They made the opportunity count with a dominating straight set win against Ireland’s Frist-Ryan duo.
Meanwhile, China’s Li Yi Jing and Luo Xu Min started their campaign with a straight set win against Chinese Taipei’s Chang-Yang pair. They are aiming to reach their third quarterfinal in the tour this year.
In the Mixed Doubles, India’s Sai Pratheek and Tanisha Crasto will face Malaysia’s Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee We.
