Eight seed HS Prannoy too bowed out in the men’s singles quarterfinals after an unfortunate injury. After conceding his match midway against Kanta Tsuneyama of Japan, Prannoy was trailing 11-21, 9-13 when he retired due to an injury.
Right from the start, the contest was a one-way traffic as the Japanese completely dominated the proceedings against the Indian. Prannoy couldn’t even put up a fight and struggled in the second set before withdrawing from the contest.
PV Sindhu vs An Se-young
PV Sindhu has crashed out of the women’s singles quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Championships 2023. Sindhu squashed a game lead to go down against second seed An Se Young of Korea. Sindhu, seeded eighth, had pocked the first game 21-18 but looked completely off colour in the next two games which she lost 5-21 9-21 to hand Young a place in the semifinals. Sindhu ranked eleventh, succumbed to the South Korean shuttler for the 6th consecutive time.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty assured a men’s doubles medal at the Badminton Asia Championships after 52 years. The Indian pair outplayed Indonesia’s experienced duo Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in the quarterfinals. They won by 21-11 21-12.
Rankireddy and Shetty were in complete control as they brushed aside their opponents in less than 30 minutes. The contest began with both the pairs fighting head-to-head. At 8-8, Chirag hit a cross-court smash and took the lead.
They gained momentum and with two more points on the trot entered the interval with a 11-8 lead. After the interval, the Indian duo extended their lead with five straight points and dominated the contest. They comfortably sealed the first game 21-11.
In the second game too the Indonesian pair took an early lead. But errors from the Indonesians helped the Indians to claw their way back. Chirag Shetty with a body smash took 11-8 lead. Errors from the Indonesian side started to pile up. The Indians also showed their attacking prowess as they completely dominated and sealed the contest.
