The Italian lifted the trophy on his debut in Bulgaria in 2020, before he successfully retained his title last year. In a strong performance against Borges, Sinner hit his watertight groundstrokes with precision and power to advance after 86 minutes.
The 21-year-old now holds a perfect 10-0 record at the ATP 250 event and will look to improve that when he plays Australian Aleksandar Vukic in the quarter-finals. Vukic has continued his impressive run at the hard-court event, scoring back-to-back tour-level wins for only the second time in his career.
Vukic recorded a 1-6 6-4 6-3 victory against Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco in the second round, his second consecutive win over a former top-10 player this week. His clash with 21-year-old Italian Sinner will be his first career meeting with a top 10-ranked opponent.
