Setback for Lakshya Sen at Paris Olympics! Shuttler loses win after opponent withdraws due to injury

Lakshya Sen will have to win the remaining of his two fixtures in the first round in order to proceed to the pre-quarterfinals of badminton event in Paris Olympics

Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen suffered a setback at the Paris Olympics after Kevin Cordon withdrew from the Summer Games. Sen had defeated Kevin 21-8, 22-20 in the men’s singles round of the badminton event. However, an elbow injury has forced Cordon to withdraw from the event, implying that Sen’s victory stands nullified.

As per BWF General Competition Regulations for group stage play, the results of all matches played, or yet to be played, involving Cordon in Group L are now considered deleted,” the world body said in a statement.

Now, Lakshya Sen will have to win the remaining of his two fixtures in the first round in order to proceed ahead. He will now face Julien Carragi on July 29 and Jonatan Christie on July 31. Only wins in these two ties will ensure a place in the pre-quarterfinal for Sen.

Placed in Group L, the 22-year-old Lakshya Sen made a comeback in his first match after losing the second game, securing a win at Paris’ Porte de la Chapelle Arena.
