India’s top men’s doubles team, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stormed into the final of the Thailand Open badminton tournament with an effortless win over Chinese Taipei’s Lu Ming-Che and Tang Kai-Wei on Saturday. This will be the fourth final the duo has played in 2024
The Asian Games gold medalists, Satwik and Chirag, showcased their dominance by wrapping up the semifinal match in just 35 minutes, winning 21-11, 21-12 in this Super 500 event.
In Sunday’s final, the world number three Indian pair, who are also the tournament’s top seeds, will go head-to-head with China’s Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi. Chen and Liu booked their place in the final by defeating South Korea’s Kim Gi Jung and Kim Sa Rang 21-19, 21-18 in the other semifinal held on Saturday.

Tanisha Carsto and Ashwini Ponnappa lose in Thailand Open semifinals
Meanwhile, in the women’s doubles category, the fourth-seeded Indian duo of Tanisha Carsto and Ashwini Ponnappa are set to face top seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai of Thailand in the semifinals later on Saturday. However, the duo lost the tie 12-21 and 20-22.
On Friday, Tanisha and Ashwini secured their semifinal spot with a thrilling victory over South Korea’s Lee Yu Lim and Shen Seung Chan, overcoming them 21-15, 21-23, 21-19 in a closely contested quarterfinal match.
