Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed immense optimism on Sunday regarding the possibility of hosting the 2036 Olympics at the upcoming Sardar Patel complex near the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. In October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the country’s intention to bid for hosting the Olympics in 2036 during an event in Mumbai. To prepare for this, the Gujarat government has partnered with top firms to develop sports infrastructure capable of supporting such a grand event.
“It will host the 2036 Olympics (if India’s bid is accepted). The government has allocated Rs 4600 crore for Sardar Patel Sports Complex and Rs 600 crore for Navrangpura Sports Complex (in Ahmedabad city). This will be India’s biggest sports complex,” Shah said.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Sansad Khel Pratiyogita, a sports event organized in his Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, Shah mentioned that Modi had urged all MPs to promote sports in their respective areas.
“This competition will last for one-and-half months. I will join you after the finals. Sports brings out sportsmanship in us. It is important to lose with grace and have a winning habit. Those who play badly in sports or politics are said to be lacking in sportsmanship,” Shah said.
During the event, Shah emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and the value of both winning and losing gracefully. He noted that Gujarat boasts the world’s largest cricket arena in the form of the Narendra Modi Stadium, and a sports complex is being developed nearby.
Shah highlighted the significant investment in sports infrastructure, stating that Rs 4600 crore has been allocated for the Sardar Patel Sports Complex, and Rs 600 crore for the Navrangpura Sports Complex in Ahmedabad. If India’s bid is accepted, the Sardar Patel Sports Complex will host the 2036 Olympics, making it India’s largest sports complex.
The Union minister emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting sports in Gujarat, citing the initiation of the ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ by Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. This initiative has facilitated the emergence of numerous players from different parts of the state.
