Sakshi Malik predicts ‘unqualified’ women’s hockey team will win medal at Paris Olympics

The Indian women's hockey team failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics after finishing fourth behind Germany, USA and Japan in the qualifiers in January.

Sakshi Malik has transitioned from the mat to the mic. But that isn’t going that well. The recently retired wrestler has been making headlines for a while now. Previously, due to leading the wrestler’s protest against the Wrestling Federation of India until a few months ago, and now due to a beginner’s mistake on her debut as a broadcaster.

Speaking about Indian athletes during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, Sakshi claimed that the Indian women’s hockey team will improve their results from the 2021 Tokyo Games, where they finished 4th. The only issue is that Salima Tete’s team hasn’t qualified for the event in Paris.

India to win 10 medals at least? Sakshi Malik thinks so

Asked about what would be India’s medal tally at the end of the Paris Olympics, Sakshi predicted that wrestlers and shooters would bag around 3-4 medals. Further asked about how the hockey teams do it, the Rio Olympic bronze medalist stated that both men’s and women’s teams would win medals as well.

Q: Kya kehna hai aapka kitne medal aayenge (how many medals do you think we’ll win?)

Sakshi Malik: Wrestling me 3-4, Shooting me bhi chances hai (We’ll win about 3-4 medals in wrestling and have a chance to win the same in shooting as well).

Q: Please, Hockey keh dijiye (What about hockey?)

Sakshi Malik: Hockey me mens ne pichli baar bronze jeeta, women’s team chauthe number par Rahi. Is baar men’s aur women’s team dono medal laayenge (Last time, the men’s hockey team won a bronze and the women’s team finished 4th. This time, both the men’s and women’s teams will win medals).
