Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co to directly play QFs at Asian Games 2023

Cricket has previously been played at two Asian Games: Guangzhou (2010) and Incheon (2014). Sri Lanka is the reigning champion, while Bangladesh won the first edition. Afghanistan finished second in both contests.

Indian Cricket Team will directly play quarter-finals at the Asian Games 2023. The Asian Games 2023, which are set to take place in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China, from September 23 to October 8, will feature a 15-member Indian men’s cricket team and five standby players, according to the announcement made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday. Men in Blue will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad.

For India being a top-ranked team will pay a lot of dividends as they will directly play in the last-8 of the tournament.

In the men’s tournament 18 teams will take part while in total 18 matches will be played. The teams will be seeded based on ICCT20I Ranking as of 1st June 2023.

The Pingfeng Cricket Field at Zhejiang University of Technology will host all of the games.

India will field primarily a second-string team in the Hangzhou Games without first-team regulars like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and others because the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup begins in India on October 5.

However, the team headed for Hangzhou will have a number of talented young players, the majority of whom were standout players in the Indian Premier League (IPL). At the Hangzhou Asian Games, Ruturaj Gaikwad, 26, who plays for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, will serve as the team’s captain.

Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm bowler who led the Punjab Kings in IPL 2023 wickets, has been added to the squad. Yashasvi Jaiswal of Rajasthan Royal, who got a century on her Test debut against the West Indies, was also included.

Rinku Singh received his first call-up to the Indian national team after his tenacious hits for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2023 this season.

India has announced its initial men’s and women’s teams for the Asian Games cricket competition.

Cricket has previously been played at two Asian Games: Guangzhou (2010) and Incheon (2014). Sri Lanka is the reigning champion, while Bangladesh won the first edition. Afghanistan finished second in both contests.

The men’s cricket squad will participate in a multisport tournament for the second time. At the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, the Indian men’s cricket team competed in a 50-over tournament. The games, however, were listed as List A games and were not given international status.
