Rubina Francis secures bronze medal for India in 10m Air Pistol SH1 at Paris Paralympics

Rubina Francis won bronze in the 10m Air Pistol SH1 at the Paris Paralympics, bringing India's medal tally to five with her impressive performance.

Rubina Francis wins a medal for India in the 10m air pistol SH1 at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. The 25-year-old shooter from Madhya Pradesh finished with a total score of 211.1 in round 6 before exiting. Iran’s Sareh Javanmardi won the gold medal with a total score of 236.8 . Rubina becomes India’s first-ever pistol shooter to win a medal at the Paralympics.

We have seen great performances from the shooters in this Paralympics, with three shooters already bagging a gold, silver, and bronze each. Rubina has become the fourth Indian shooter to win a medal at the Paris Paralympics.

Rubina started the event on a high note, shooting 10.3, 10.3, 9.7, and 9.0, but fell just short by 0.1 points, coming second behind Iran’s Sareh Javanmardi. In the second series, she slipped to third place. The first shot didn’t go well, with an 8.4, but she recovered well with a 10, closing the series with 9.8, 9.6, and 9.8.

Elimination round

Rubina began her round with an 8.9 but stayed in third place. Her second shot was 9.3, and the gap between her and the fifth-placed shooter was just 0.5.

In the second round, she slipped to fourth place with an 8.7 and a 9.8. In the third elimination round, she made a comeback with a 9.7 shot and stayed there with a 10.4.

In the fourth round, she shot a 9.2 and remained in third position. Later, Rubina shot a 10.1, tightening her hold on third place with a 1.7-point lead. In the fifth elimination round, she confirmed a medal with a 9.5 and a solid 9.8. She had to exit in the sixth round as Aysen Ozgal took a narrow 0.1-point lead. Rubina managed only an 8.9, while Aysen shot a 10.4.
