Rohan Bopanna is in the French Open quarterfinals. Facing N Sriram Balaji and Miguel Reyes-Varelas, the world no. 2, and his partner Matt Ebden had an incredibly tough time. Despite playing at a good level, he lost the first set in a tiebreaker. But the experienced campaigner struck back to take the second set following a rare break of serve.
The third set was a battle. Neither team was willing to budge, and into the super tiebreaker we went. Eventually, Balaji and Reyes-Varelas erred, and the second seeds pounced on the opportunity to take the tiebreaker 10-8 and the match, 6-7(2), 6-3, 7-6(8).
Tough QF ahead of Rohan Bopanna
Up next for Bopanna and Ebden are tenth seeds Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen. The German duo are themselves coming into the final eight off the back of a walkover and difficult first-round match. Unfortunately for Gillé and Vliegen, the second seeds have a 1-0 record against them. That solitary win had come earlier this year on the hard courts of the Indian Wells Masters.
