The team of Rohan Bopanna and Aldila Sutjiadi proceeded to the quarterfinals in the mixed doubles category of the US Open on Sunday. The duo beat the pair of John Peers and Katerina Siniakova by 0-6, 7-6(5), 10-7. This is Bopanna’s first campaign after his early exit from the Paris Olympics last month. They will face Matthew Ebden of Australia and his partner Barbora Krejcikova on September 3.

The start was not something that Bopanna and his partner would have asked for. The team was taken down 0-6 in the first set before they responded in an emphatic fashion. The Indian-Indonesian duo gave a tough fight to the opposition, taking the second set into a tie breaker and eventually winning it. Bopanna’s team managed a 10-7 win over Peers and Siniakova in the final set to book their spot in the quarterfinals.

Previosuly, Bopanna progressed, both in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles events on Saturday. In the mixed doubles, with his Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi, he beat the team of Demi Schuurs and Tim Putz 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5). Whereas in the men’s doubles encounter, the Bopanna-Matthew Ebden pair overcame Roberto Carballés Baena and Federico Coria 6-2, 6-4 to seal their spot in the pre-quarters.
