India’s tennis ace Rohan Bopanna and partner Aldila Sutjiadi went down 3-6, 4-6 to their opponents in the semi-finals of the US Open mixed doubles. The 44-year-old and his partner were defeated by Taylor Townsend and Donald Young, bringing Bopanna’s campaign in the US Open to an end. Bopanna’s opponents, a wild card entrant in the tournament, defeat the 8th seeded duo to proceed to the finals.

Rohan Bopanna and Sutjiadi were under pressure right from the first set. The duo of Young and Townsend clinched the first set in an emphatic 6-3 fashion. They then went on to pile more misery on the Indian and his partner as they took the second set too with a 6-4 victory.

Rohan Bopanna’s road to US Open semis
Rohan Bopanna had beaten Matthew Ebden in the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles. Previously, both Bopanna and Ebden fought in the men’s doubles of the US Open 2024 but lost out. Bopanna then went on to secure his place with Aldila Sutjiadi as they went past Matthew Ebden and Barbora Krejcikova.
It wasn’t an easy win for the duo of Bopanna and Sutjiadi as it took them more than an hour and a half to go past Ebden and Krejcikova 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 10-7. Bopanna and Sutjiadi took the first set after a hard fight before losing the second set. With all to play in the third set, it was a game of epic proportions. Eventually the veteran had the last laugh with a 10-7 win.
