India’s tennis veteran star Rohan Bopanna advanced to the second round of the US Open 2024. Bopanna and his fellow partner Matthew Ebden breezed past Sander Arends and Robin Haase of Netherlands in their first round encounter of the men’s doubles in US Open.
The aim for Bopanna and his Aussie partner would be achieve the title. Back last year, the duo of Bopanna and Ebden ended runners up. But this time, the victory against the Dutch pair was relatively easy. It took the duo 64 minutes to win the tie 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the next round.
The win will work wonders for the pair. This happens to be their solitary victory in their last 4 games. As a result, the win was much welcomed. Bopanna and Ebden started well before the Dutch duo started to showcase their mark in the game. But then patience and experience prevailed.
The duo went on to win four games on a trot to secure the first set. The second set however wasn’t easy and in fact both Bopanna and Ebden had to work hard to clinch the win. The Dutch duo started off well before taking a comfortable 4-1lead. But then Bopanna-Ebden showed resilience and fightback to bring the set back to 5-5.
Ultimately, the Dutch defense were breached once again when the Indian-Australian duo outclassed them in the dying game secure a hard fought win in their favour. The next match for the dup would be against Spanish-Argentine pair of Roberto Carballes Baena and Federico Coria in the second round clash.
