Rohan Bopanna eyes No. 1 rank ahead of Olympics, faces unseeded duo in first round of French Open

Bopanna won the first slam of the year (Australia Open 2024) and won the mixed doubles title at the French Open in 2017.

Rohan Bopanna will start his bid for the French Open title against the unseeded duo of Emil Ruusuvuori and Márton Fucsovics. The 44-year-old is ranked second in the world along with Matthew Edben and would like to reclaim his top spot in the ATP Ranking ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Bopanna had become the world’s oldest No. 1 after he claimed the Australian Open title in January. He backed that up with the Miami Masters title but has since seen a dip in form. Since April, he has won just one match. That means his clay record is 1-3 this season.

Having won his maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open in 2017, Bopanna would have high hopes. With a title run, Rohan Bopanna can claim his No. 1 back rank, and given that the Olympics will be played at Roland Garros this year, the victory would mean that he has a great chance to get a medal two months later.
