According to a report by Marca quoting Garcia, Nadal has anaesthetised his left leg to take part in the French Open.

The publication has quoted Garcia.

“Nadal has previously admitted to taking anti-inflammatories on a daily basis to be able to train”

Garcia also said that the bone in Nadal’s foot has necrosis. This means the tissue is dying due to a lack of blood supply.

Garcia claims that – Necrosis could mean that Nadal will undergo surgery. The leading Spanish Journalist further says due to the situation, ’21 time Grand Slam finalist will be forced to retire after the Roland Garros tournament’

Rafael Nadal Foot Injury Explained: Nadal reached his 14th French Open final on Friday after Alexander Zverev retired with an ankle injury.

But Nadal by his own admission has been playing with considerable pain throughout the Roland Garros tournament. Even the entire past two years Nadal has been severly bothered by the injury.

  • The 36-year-old tennis star suffers from a rare degenerative condition.
  • The condition is called Mueller-Weiss that affecs bones in the feet.
  • Marca reports that Nadal was diagnosed with the condition in 2005 at the age of 19. 
  • Mueller-Weiss syndrome can affect one foor or both
  • Nadal has it on his left foot only.
  • Now for sometime injury has taken severe turn and Nadal on a daily basis has to take anti-inflammatories injections as per the report.
  • The injections allow Nadal to compete but is ruining his foot by the day. This is the reason Nadal may call it QUITS after the French Open according to Garcia.

Rafael Nadal to Retire? What Nadal has said about his injury? Nadal, the 13-time champion, will be chasing a record-extending 22nd Grand Slam title on Sunday. 

Throughout this Roland Garros Nadal has maintained that a chronic left foot injury means any match could be the last of his standout career.

“Without a doubt, I’d prefer to lose the final,” said Nadal who turned 36 on Friday.

“My opinion does not change. A new foot would allow me to be happier in my daily life.

“Winning is very nice and gives you an adrenaline rush, but it’s temporary and then you have to go on living.”

“I have a life ahead of me and in the future I would love to play sports with my friends. My happiness goes ahead of any title,” he insisted.

Nadal will face Casper Ruud on Sunday. Ruud beat Marin Cilic in four sets in the second semi-final on Friday.
