Qatar Open 2023: Following the Abu Dhabi Open, another WTA 500 event is set to get underway in the the Middle East this week. The WTA Qatar Open will kickstart on Monday, 13th February 2023. The hard court tournament is set to feature big names like World No.1 Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, Caroline Garcia and Coco Gauff. The tournament will be held till 19th February 2023. Iga Swiatek headlines first quarter 

World No.1 Iga Swiatek is all set to make her return to the tour after Australian Open. The Polish 21-year old has received a bye to the second round. Her first opponent in the tournament is likely to be Danielle Collins.

The unseeded Collins will begin her campaign by facing a qualifier in the first round. Seventh seed Belinda Bencic is the only other seeded player in the draw. She will also face a qualifier in the opening round of the tournament.

Victoria Azarenka, who made it to the semifinals at the Australian Open this year has been granted a wildcard. She will take on another fellow wildcard entrant in Ipek Oz in the first round.

Coco Gauff  leads second quarter 

Coco Gauff is the fourth seeded player in the tournament. The American has received a bye and will begin her campaign from the second round. She will face the winner between Petra Kvitova and Shuai Zhang in the second round.

Veronika Kudermetova, who is the eighth seed, is the other seeded player in this quarter. Kudermetova will be facing Barbora Krejcikova in a tough first round contest. The quarter also has former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, who has been given a wildcard. Kenin will face Ludmilla Samsonova in the first round.

Caroline Garcia and Maria Sakkari in third quarter 

Caroline Garica who made a terrific rise in the rankings in 2022 is the third seed in the tournament. She leads the third quarter. Garcia will begin her campaign only from the second round. The winner between Karolina Muchova and Martina Trevisan will next face Garcia in the second round.

Fifth seed Maria Sakkari is also part of this quarter. Sakkari will begin her campaign against China’s Qinwen Zheng in the first round. Meanwhile, Ekaterina Alexandrova will be facing a qualifier in the same quarter.

Jessica Pegula leads final quarter 

USA’s Jessica Pegula is in the final quarter. The American will face the winner between compatriot Madison Keys and Jelena Ostapenko in the second round of the tournament.

Daria Kasatkina is the other seeded player in the quarter. The fifth seed will begin her campaign against a qualifier. Other notable name in this part of the draw is Paula Badosa. The Spaniard is unseeded in the tournament. She faces a tough challenge in the first round against Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia.
