India’s top women’s shuttler and two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu makes shocking exit from the first round of the All England Open 2025. The World Rank 16, Sindhu, eventually loses to 22nd-ranked South Korean player Kim Ga Eun. She loses in three games, by 19-21, 21-13, 21-13.
Sindhu’s was highly expected for a win, especially after her previous victory over Kim at the 2019 Hong Kong Open, but this time, Kim had the upper hand.
Sindhu’s struggles in the match
As the match began, Sindhu started strong, using her powerful smashes. The early score was close, with Sindhu leading 8-7. She continued this momentum, reaching a score of 16-9 in the first game, finally securing it 21-19 after a tough fight.
The second game saw a shift in momentum. Kim Ga-Eun came back fiercely, gaining an early lead of 5-2. Despite Sindhu’s efforts, Kim continued to dominate, finishing the game 21-13. This evened the match, making the third game crucial.
Korean takes the deciding game
In the third and final game, Kim maintained her strong form, quickly opening a lead. Sindhu struggled to keep up with Kim’s defensive skills and fell behind 6-9 early on. Despite her efforts, Sindhu couldn’t close the gap, and Kim won the game 21-13, ending Sindhu’s run in the tournament at the round of 32.
No success in the mixed doubles as well
Earlier in the day, other Indian players also competed. Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Gadde advanced in the mixed doubles, defeating their opponents from Chinese Taipei.
