PV Sindhu, India’s top-ranked badminton player, has begun training with Indonesia’s top-ranked coach Agus Dwi Santoso after she parted ways with her former coach Muhammad Hafiz Hashim. Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu teamed up with Malaysia’s Muhammad Hafiz Hashim in July. This was following her split from Republic of Korea’s Park Tae-Sang in February of 2023. Hashim is an All England and Commonwealth Games champion.

However, her time with the Malaysian did not turn out to be fruitful. In the past year, Sindhu was unable to win a BWF World Tour title and reached just one final – the Madrid Masters.
Sindhu’s string of bad results coincided with a drop in her ranking from world No. 1 to No. 11. This former world champion will be looking to make up for lost time this year ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from July to August.
“I’d been training with Hafiz and then I wanted some change – I thought it was not suiting my game – and that’s when I asked Agus,” PV Sindhu told news agency Reuters.
“He’s really good for me because every coach has a different mindset. It’s super tough; you’re fatigued, you’re tired but they (help you) get back that strength and they make sure your muscles are strong enough to be back on court the next day,” Sindhu added.
