Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and Paris Olympics semi-finalist Lakshya Sen are set to lead a strong 14-member Indian team at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships. The event will be held in Qingdao, China, from February 11-16, 2025. India, who secured a bronze medal in the last edition in Dubai in 2023, aims to improve its performance this time. This tournament is important as it will take the winning teams to Thomas & Uber Cup.
Selection based on rankings and form
The team’s selection focused on players’ world rankings and current form. HS Prannoy and Malvika Bansod are picked as the second men’s and women’s singles players, respectively. According to Sanjay Mishra, the secretary general of the Badminton Association of India, the goal is to reach the finals this year. He highlighted the event’s prestige and the strong competition India will face.

Strong doubles line-up
India boasts a formidable doubles line-up, with former world number one duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty leading the men’s doubles team. Women’s doubles responsibilities will be shared between Gayatri Gopichand with Treesa Jolly or Olympians Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto. Tanisha will also play mixed doubles with Dhruv Kapila, while Sathish Kumar K and Adya Variyath form the squad’s second combination.
